On Thursday, a coworker noticed a tooth puncture on Geneva's head, just above her right eye. It llooks like it's healing well, but I can't believe I didn't notice it after her attack a week before. And even more so, I can't believe the trainer from GDB who met with us on Saturday at the convention didn't see it. So my poor girl didn't just get a big scare, she actually got hurt. And I feel so bad that I didn't notice this.

Friday, Nick came out and worked with Geneva and I. He brought his Yellow Lab, Terragon and we walked here in my park. The first encounters between Geneva and Terragon were with us walking toward each other. Geneva pulled like usual and then sniffed at Terragon with interest. Nick had me praise her, which is certainly not what I'd normally do in that situation. smile Then after a couple of successful meetings, he walked ahead and stopped off to the side to have us work passed them. I had to tell Geneva to "hop up" to get by them as she was interested, but she did well. By the third passing, she just walked on without regard to Terragon. I feel the true test came as wee approached 2 houses next to each other with barking dogs. I was delighted and relieved as Geneva worked by this area without trepidation. I'm feeling confident that Geneva is going to be just fine from her unfortunate incident last weekend, but of course the real test begins in four days when we're at our state convention.

Speaking of the WCB state convention... We have over 200 people registered and things really feel like they're coming together nicely. Most of the convention will be streamed live on ACBRadio and all of it will be recorded and made available on the WCB website
www.wcbinfo.org
at a later date.

Now for some of the other news around here. On October 1, Arabelle turned eleven. Amanda baked her a huge peanutbutter cookie and we all got to have some, including the dogs.

On the 10th, Amelia learned that she was being promoted from Courtesy Clerk to Cashier. She's been working at Albertsons since April bagging groceries, doing cart runs, cleaning the bathroom, etc. This is the second position she's put in for, and although she didn't expect to actually get it, she's thrilled. It means a 2 dollar per hour wage increase and she's in her second week in this position and loves it!

On the 11th, Lyle was voted by his peers Employee of the Year for his department at the Lighthouse. In February, all department winners will be awarded $250, and one of them will receive an additional $750 as Employee of the Year for the entire Lighthouse and receive a trip to Maryland for a national awards ceremony. I'm so proud of him.

Last night our house was full of Rainbow girls. I think there were 12 in all who spent the night following a progressive dinner. Amanda was in charge of this event. This is where they went to one house for appetizers, another house for salad, another for the main dish, and then to our house for dessert and the sleep-over. What fun! After things settled down with the girls, Lyle and I went into the bedroom and watched Fried Green Tomatoes using Freedom Box, a website that Lyle is considering subscribing to. Yes, it was described.

Now Amanda is trying to think of things she can do at the upcoming convention to raise money for the Rainbow Girls state service project which is the Burned Children Recovery Foundation. At this time she is planning to bring a Poleroid camera and take photos at the banquet for $3 each. She'll also be selling Smencils, the scented pencils her sister sold last year, which sell for $1 each. Her goal is to raise $500 by June 30. So if you're at convention, don't be surprised if you get a sales pitch from Amanda.

Hugs,

Cindy & Geneva
